I have only checked to see if it records. I am still reading the instructions to learn how to use this gadget. That is the problem with new electronics, there is so much to learn about how to record and playback.

I bought this on Sunday, intending to use it to record ambient sound, especially at camping events and festivals; I’ve been using the record function of my iPhone which is not great but it’s always with me. I spent a while researching and reading reviews, but neither of the problems I had were highlighted in the reviews.
With the supplied batteries, three hours of recording time was all I could get. I was expecting more like eight – I’d like to set it in a corner and forget it, not have to keep feeding it batteries (we usually have no available AC power).
The sound was “chirpy” – lots of digital artifacts and cutouts. And lots of clinking and clunking – it seems to do a lot better at recording erroneous sound than the sound I’d like to capture. The iphone sounds better, I did a side-by-side comparison.
Back in the box and returned today, Tuesday.

Works good, no complaints except the first one I got was DOA and had to send it back for a replacement. Seems built a little cheap but for the money its a great bargin.

I have used the TASCAM DR-07 successfully for three months and now it has failed to power on. Amazon don’t want to know as it is past the 90 day limit. The manufacturers are not honouring the guarantee. I am left with £140 worth of electronic junk. My only recourse now seems to be legal action.

This recorder is very easy to use and I give them high marks for that. However, I purchased this device for the sole purpose of documenting songwriting sessions with my rock band – as a professional recording engineer, I wanted something simple so I can just be a musician and not an engineer for our writing sessions. The microphones cannot handle the SPL of a rock band in a medium-small rehearsal space. The input levels can be lowered, but since the mics themselves are overloaded it does no good. Otherwise, for lower volume stuff it works like a charm. But this kind of device should be able to record rock band rehearsals, IMO. Unfortunately, it seems none of these kind of devices have published Max SPL, which I suppose leaves it to trial & error.
