I really like sonar and have been pleased with the consistency of this software. Since Pro Tools was still working out the kinks at the time I was shopping I went with this and have not been disappointed. It is not quite as intuitive as i hoped and still have a lot more functions to learn. But it has plenty of power at flexibility with recording that i will surely max out in the near future. I use it mainly as a midi sequencer and sync unit for my usb setup. I will start using it for manipulating analog recording soon as my music becomes more diverse and complex. I probably won’t use the sheet music printing option, but at least it has it. I use Print Music for that.

I am going to just be short here. Basically, this application impresses me. It does a lot. I mean, the power and functionality behind this application is amazing. For the home user, it is plenty. And maybe it is my newness to the application, but what I have found is the lacking of wav editing. Sure it is capable, but nowhere to the extent of Adobe Audition (Cool Edit Pro). Fortunately, I have both, so where this one leaves off, I can pick up with the other. The other minor annoyance in this involves the goofy nature of track editing. Again, this has so much to do with my newness to the application, but it isn’t intuitive. I will get used to it and perhaps it will become second nature.
If ti means anything to the reader of this review, I would certainly buy this over again. The track, bus, effect, output assignments are so nice. The XL inclusions are a nice touch, and paired with the EMU Proteus Pack, you will have more patches than you know what to do with.

This software kicks a$$. I bought it because I knew a cool dude that used to have it, and it seemed pretty user friendly. It took me a week or so to understand what I had to do, and what I needed to record my music. But, now I’m up and running and the software does everything I expected. There is a great forum on the cakewalk website, these guys answer all your questions quickly and wisely. Have fun.
